WILLIAM TIPP WEBB
January 21, 2010
VISITATION: 2-8 PM EDT SUNDAY, JANUARY 24, 2010

SERVICES: 10:30 AM EDT MONDAY, JANUARY 25, 2010

Esteemed Winamac businessman and longtime resident William Tipp Webb, 81, of 333 East Main Street, Winamac, IN, passed away at 11:30 AM Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, IN after losing a valiant battle with a debilitating lung disease.

He was born May 17, 1928 in South Bend, IN and in 1930 moved to Winamac with his parents the late Eula E. Campbell and William H. Webb.

At an early age, he began work at the Winamac Republican then owned by the late George Shull. In the mid 1940s, he was employed by the Pulaski County Democrat (Journal) as a printer and lineotype operator. Eventually, he went into business for himself establishing Webb Printing in the back of the Journal office. He then located across the street into the office space of the late Dr. H.J. Halleck. The business was finally moved to its present location built there in 1996. In October 2009, Bill celebrated his 65th year as a printer.

On September 23, 1950 at Pulaski, IN he was married to Mary Elizabeth Worley daughter of the late Frank and Katie Worley. She passed away on December 1, 1993. He then married Louanna Stephens Deutschman of Kewanna, IN at Winamac on December 10, 1994. She survives.

He had attended the Winamac Presbyterian Church and St. Peter's Catholic Church in Winamac.

Bill has long been a participant and supporter of community affairs and done things for people few know about. Among involvements were Little League when he served as a coach from 1960 to 1974, as a Precinct Committeeman, and as one of the last Presidents of the now defunct Rotary Club. He also held membership in the American Legion, VFW, and was a Past-Master and fifty year member of the Winamac Lodge #262 F&AM.

He was a T5 in the US Army security from 1946 to 1948 and saw duty in Japan, Okinawa, Phillipines, and Korea.

Bill enjoyed Monday morning coffee group where all the world's problems were solved. He devoured books, having read "several walls" of the old public library - plus buying hundreds of them. Too, he was a great fan of jazz music.
